UK centre in renewable energy project
Thursday, Nov 13, 2008
A new technology centre is using itself as an example of how technology can be friendly to the environment. The Environmental Energy Technology Centre (EETC) in Yorkshire has been commissioned by Yorkshire Forward and is designed to be a completely carbon-free building.
It includes a Hydrogen Mini-Grid System, which powers the building using a wind turbine and makes it entirely self-sufficient. One of the main aims of the centre is to prove the worth of hydrogen as an energy source, through experimentation with a hydrogen fuel cell.
Tom Sperrey, managing director of UPS Systems, who will supply and install the fuel cell, said: ""This project will prove to be important in the progression of hydrogen and fuel cell technology as viable alternative sources of energy.
""The Environmental Energy Technology Centre demonstrates how businesses can potentially be self-sufficient by using renewable energy."" It is 54 days until the first hydrogen production is expected at the centre.
