SOLON completes 1.9 MW of solar school projects in Arizona

Tuesday, Jan 28, 2014

SOLON Corporation, a leading provider of solar energy solutions in the southwest, announced today the completion of 1.92 MW of solar systems for three Arizona school districts - Liberty Unified School District, Ft. Huachuca School District and Pima County Joint Technical Education District (JTED). The systems are comprised of solar canopies and rooftop systems covering nine campuses and were all commissioned at the end of 2013.

“Solar canopies are an excellent option for schools to produce their own reliable energy at reduced cost as well as provide shade for students, faculty and staff. We are excited to be a preferred partner for Arizona schools.”

1.2 MW of canopy systems are deployed over four campuses in the Liberty Unified School District, located in Buckeye, AZ; 465 kW of canopy and rooftop systems are spread over two campuses in the Ft. Huachuca district located in Sierra Vista, AZ; and 257 kW of canopy systems are installed over three JTED campuses, located in Tucson, AZ. SOLON designed, engineered, constructed, arranged financing, and commissioned all of the systems. As a full-service provider, SOLON will also continue to operate and maintain the systems.

“SOLON is committed to providing money-saving solutions to schools. These photovoltaic systems empower Arizona school districts to meet their sustainability goals,” said Bill Richardson, General Manager, SOLON Corporation. “Solar canopies are an excellent option for schools to produce their own reliable energy at reduced cost as well as provide shade for students, faculty and staff. We are excited to be a preferred partner for Arizona schools.”

“We are delighted with our solar canopy systems that have been installed at our Central Campus facilities... Obviously they look fantastic, but the knowledge that we are saving tax payer dollars and turning those dollars into funds going directly to our students is outstanding. SOLON was a pleasure to work with--professional from beginning to end!” said Alan L. Storm, Ph.D., Superintendent/CEO, Pima County Joint Technical Education District (JTED).
