Solar Blooms in New Jersey: World Class Flowers Unveils 178kW Solar Energy System

Wednesday, Mar 10, 2010

World Class Flowers expects to reduce its electricity costs by more than $130,000 and generate close to $600,000 in SREC revenue over the next five years, with its new solar energy system installed by Mercury Solar Systems.

"We went green and so did our bank account," said John Fietkiewicz, Controller, World Class Flowers. "There is no better return on investment than solar right now. We did a lot of due diligence, especially on the benefits of SREC's, and from a long-term cost savings perspective it just made financial sense and we will make our money back in just a little over 3 years."

The 178kW solar energy system consists of 795 solar panels and 4 inverters. It will produce over 215,000 kW/hr of electricity per year and supply close to 30 percent of World Class Flowers' electrical needs. This will offset more than 150 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually and is equivalent to recycling over 3 million cans of soda, not burning 18,213 gallons of gasoline annually and planting 19 acres of trees.

"World Class Flowers is a great example of how businesses in New Jersey can generate income off their roof," said Jared Haines, President, Mercury Solar Systems. "SREC's are one of the most lucrative and powerful parts of the State's rebate program and are helping businesses not only create long-term revenue streams but achieve a much quicker return on their solar investment."
