RWE Innogy, TroiKomm to Build Biomass-Fired Cogeneration Plant

RWE Innogy has announced plans to build a modern biomass-fired cogeneration plant together with TroiKomm, a subsidiary of the city of Troisdorf.

The plant is to supply steam and heat to the industrial municipal park of Troisdorf in Germany. Therefore, RWE Innogy Cogen and TroiKomm have entered into a shareholders agreement to establish a joint project company. RWE will hold a share of 51% in this company, while the city of Troisdorf will have a stake of 49%. The planned investment volume will amount to more than E30 million (US$ 38 Million).

RWE said that the next step is to invite tenders for the planning and design of the plant. In parallel, the licensing procedure will be initiated. Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2009. The cogeneration plant is planned to have an electrical output of 7.5MW and a thermal output of 18MW. The electricity produced will be fed into the grid.

For us, the project here in Troisdorf is a promising stepping stone towards further biomass projects which are to follow soon.
