RES and ESB Sign Deal on Sale of Hunters Hill Wind Farm

Wednesday, Feb 25, 2009

RES UK & Ireland Ltd has today completed an agreement to sell an eight turbine wind farm in Northern Ireland to ESB.

Hunter’s Hill Wind Farm, which is currently under construction by RES, is situated between Fintona and Fivemiletown in County Tyrone and is adjacent to the existing Lendrum’s Bridge Wind Farm, which was also

developed and built by RES.

The project will generate renewable electricity sufficient to meet the needs of an estimated 11,200 homes every year. The eight Nordex N80 2.5MW turbines will give a total installed capacity of 20MW, providing a significant boost to Northern Ireland’s renewable energy generation.

CEO of RES Northern Europe, Douglas Wright, said;

“We are delighted to complete the sale of Hunter’s Hill Wind Farm. It demonstrates our strong track record of successful project development and construction in Northern Ireland, where RES is the leading developer. We look forward to continuing our positive working relationship with ESB through the construction phase of the project.”

Commenting on the sale, Head of ESB Wind Development, Joe O’Mahony said;

“The acquisition is in line with ESB’s renewable strategy and is commensurate with ESB’s renewable energy objectives. ESB plans to build its wind portfolio to 600 megawatts by 2012, and this acquisition helps achieve that target.”

Hunter’s Hill Wind Farm was developed by RES UK & Ireland Ltd and was granted planning approval in January 2008. Construction work started in September 2008. Local civil works contractor WH Alexander (Civil Engineering) Limited and Northern Ireland electrical contractor KPL Contracts Limited are employed on site as part of the balance of plant team. The project is expected to start generating in the autumn of 2009.
