Oncor to promote solar power in Texas

Michael Stockard, director of Energy Efficiency Programs for Oncor Electric Delivery, revealed details of the companys plans to promote solar photovoltaic (PV) products to Oncor customers, during a presentation at the Texas Renewables 08 conference in Austin, Texas.

Oncor is the largest regulated energy delivery business in Texas. Oncor will be spending US$18.5 million to increase the awareness of solar PV technology and develop an infrastructure of trained solar PV installation and maintenance contractors.

The company will also provide incentives to residential customers to install solar PV systems. with incentives of up to US$2.46 per watt offered for up to 10 kW.

The company will begin accepting applications for solar PV systems on Dec. 1. Oncor forecasts that around 200 residential and 10 commercial projects will be part of the program in 2009.
