Tendril customer Owen Electric Cooperative wins 2013 Smart Grid Visionary Award

Wednesday, Dec 11, 2013

Tendril®, a provider of customer engagement solutions, today announced that client Owen Electric Cooperative (OEC) has been honored with the 2013 Smart Grid Visionary Award from Rural Smart Grid Summit.

“Our mission is to provide new energy management solutions to our members in the face of increasing environmental regulation as a way to improve both the quality and reliability of the power delivered”

A Smart Grid Summit advisory board made up of utility executives, industry analysts, association representatives, and executives from technology companies voted for the winners. The Smart Grid Visionary Award is given to an innovative electric cooperative that has deployed at least one smart grid project and plans to further develop the technology during the next three to five years.

OEC is a 58,000-member electrical distribution cooperative located in Owenton, Ky. OEC is committed to offering its members all of the information that can be found, offered and analyzed from the smart grid.

“Our mission is to provide new energy management solutions to our members in the face of increasing environmental regulation as a way to improve both the quality and reliability of the power delivered,” said Mark Stallons, president and CEO, Owen Electric Cooperative. “It is an honor to be recognized by the Smart Grid Summit on our efforts. We will continue to move these projects forward to ultimately save our members money.”

The Smart Grid Visionary Award is a testament to OEC’s longtime commitment to pioneering new and innovative ways to engage with its customers. OEC leveraged the Tendril solution to deliver personalized information on consumption habits and provide recommendations on how to conserve energy.

Rural Smart Grid Summit recognized OEC for its “Beat the Peak” program, which is designed to gauge OEC members’ willingness to voluntarily reduce electrical consumption during peak system load periods. Associated with this program was a Smart Home project focused on positively managing OEC members’ daily electrical usage.

“We are pleased to congratulate Owen Electric Cooperative on this honor,” said Adrian Tuck, CEO of Tendril. “Their effort is a great example of how embracing new ways of customer engagement can make a positive and significant impact for progressive utilities and their customers. This award is further validation of our desire to create partnerships with utilities and enable them to deliver compelling customer experiences.”
