SMB-The Alliance announces California small business to provide sustainable energy as solar power continues to grow

Friday, Dec 21, 2012

Regenerate Power, a one-year-old small business, has teamed with Tallbear Solar, a Native American owned company to provide long-term renewable energy to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) for a growing number of their 3.4 million customers. In an industry often dominated by major corporations, the young firm led by clean-energy experts with global experience is well positioned to support expanded use of solar power throughout the country.

“SDG&E has made a concerted effort to increase the number of diverse-owned suppliers we do business with in electric procurement”

The Solar Energy Industry Association has just confirmed that solar power installations during the third quarter of 2012 exceeded the same time period last year by 44%. SDG&E has emerged as a leader in providing industry opportunities for women, minority and disabled-veteran owned companies.

“SDG&E has made a concerted effort to increase the number of diverse-owned suppliers we do business with in electric procurement,” said Matt Burkhart, SDG&E’s vice president of electric and fuel procurement. “We look forward to continuing to expand such participation in our procurement portfolio as we meet our retail customers’ needs.”

The Regenerate Power initiative will be centered in heavily populated areas of Southern California. The operation will be linked to facilities in the Imperial Valley which has among the highest unemployment rates in the country and job creation is expected to be a major collateral benefit.
