SolarCity honored with ‘Hire Power’ award by Inc. magazine as a top job creator

Friday, Dec 07, 2012

SolarCity was today honored by Inc. Magazine with its prestigious ‘Hire Power’ award that recognizes the Top Job Creators in the U.S. SolarCity, a national leader in clean energy services, ranked among the Top 10 out of a list of 100 private companies that were credited for generating the largest number of American jobs in the past three years. SolarCity ranked first among Energy companies.

“SolarCity’s award win shines a light on the whole solar industry which has driven job creation eight times faster than the overall economy”

Inc. Magazine reviewed job growth data for the years 2008-2011 to determine the company rankings. In those three years, SolarCity’s employee base grew by more than 252% totaling to 1,381 full-time hires by end of year 2011 — and the company hired new employees in 11 different states.

“SolarCity’s award win shines a light on the whole solar industry which has driven job creation eight times faster than the overall economy,” said SolarCity’s VP of Human Resources, Linda Keala. “SolarCity provides consumers with clean, renewable energy that can be more affordable than rising utility bills and this has created domestic solar development jobs that can’t be easily outsourced.”

SolarCity’s more recent job creation is even more impressive — the company has hired more than 1,000 additional full-time employees since the survey window closed, and now has more than 2,300 employees. Today, SolarCity has more than 300 job openings — job seekers can apply online at www.solarcity.com/jobs.

“The top 100 companies on the list have created 73,032 American jobs in the three-year period from 2008 to 2011 — an amazing feat, given that much of that job growth came during the heart of the recession,” explains Inc. editor-in-chief Eric Schurenberg. “And it isn’t just the big guys that are adding jobs. Companies with less than $50 million in annual revenue make up nearly one-third of the Hire Power list.”

SolarCity was presented with a Hire Power plaque at an awards ceremony held today at The Mead Center in Washington, D.C.
