Harper Macleod, one of Scotland’s leading law firms, has played a key role in the completion of Temporis Wind’s first 500KW turbine at Wester Hassockrigg Farm in North Lanarkshire.
Visible to the thousands of drivers using the M8, the turbine is Temporis’ first installed in Scotland which is utilising the Feed-In Tariff (FiT).
The project consists of a single 500kW turbine, which is 79 metres in height with a blade length of 56 metres.
Harper Macleod has been part of the project from the outset, initially advising on and negotiating the option agreement with the landowner and most recently completing the final lease.
Elizabeth MacGregor, Associate in Harper Macleod’s Energy & Natural Resources team is delighted to see the turbine generating:
“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with all parties throughout this whole process and to see the tangible results of the hard work put in by everyone is most satisfactory. We look forward to helping Temporis bring their other Scottish projects to fruition also.
“The Feed-In Tariff provides so many opportunities for landowners, communities and many others to get involved in renewables and make genuine contributions to our future energy needs.”
David Bone, Head of Harper Macleod’s Energy group commented - "We have been heavily involved in FiT projects since its inception in April 2010, preparing appropriate agreements from scratch and adapting these for use in wind, hydro and solar/pv work. Temporis were our first wind client using the FiT route and it is great to see the first completed project up and running.”
“FiT has opened up renewable energy to many organisations and earlier this year we completed the legal work for Knowes Housing Association to provide pv panels on over 200 properties with another 800 plus pv project in preparation for another housing association.
“We currently have several very active developer and numerous landowner clients who we are helping progress their projects, all of whom are looking to utilise FiT.
“We are fortunate to have built up a large and established ROC based renewables practice and this work allows us to operate through the whole breadth of the industry.”
Mark Byrne from Temporis Wind said:
“Harper Macleod has helped make the experience of concluding our first turbine deal enjoyable and as painless as possible. We continue to work with Harper Macleod on other developments and continue to be impressed with the results and commitment that we receive. As we expand our portfolio through development and acquisition of additional projects we will look to build upon our relationship with Harper Macleod into the future. “
