Governor Schwarzenegger Highlights Jobs Package

Tuesday, Feb 09, 2010

Governor Schwarzenegger toured REC Solar’s facility in San Luis Obispo and held a press conference to discuss the California Jobs Initiative. REC Solar is recognized as one of the nation’s largest and most respected solar installation companies. The company currently serves homeowners and commercial businesses in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon and other states where it installed 1525 solar systems in 2009.

“We were honored to host the Governor’s Jobs Initiative Hiring Incentive press conference,” said Angiolo Laviziano, CEO of REC Solar. “Our fast-growing business is very labor intensive since engineering and installations cannot rely on automated processes. The combined funding for training and new hire grants that the governor is proposing will help companies like REC Solar hire and train more employees that are much needed in the solar business.”

“My number one priority right now is job creation and helping companies like REC Solar expand their business by growing jobs here in California. To get people working again there is an incentive in the California Jobs Initiative that will reimburse REC Solar and other companies for hiring and training unemployed Californians,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “As one of the nation’s leading solar installation companies, REC Solar is helping us meet our environmental and renewable energy goals, and by helping companies create jobs we are showing again that what is good for our environment is also good for our economy.”

The California Jobs Initiative is a five-step plan to create jobs and foster a more business-friendly economy. In addition to the employer hiring incentive, the Governor proposes to streamline regulations to get shovels in the ground and projects moving to create jobs; extend and expand the $10,000 homebuyer tax credit to include the purchase of new or existing homes; eliminate sales taxes on green tech manufacturing equipment; and reform the legal climate for California businesses by proposing a series of changes to regulations governing class action lawsuits, product liability suits and seek to cap punitive damage awards to eliminate frivolous lawsuits and create an atmosphere where businesses can thrive.
