Forth Energy's biomass plan puts wind turbines on back burner

Forth Energy's eagerness to push ahead with a biomass plant at Dundee Harbour has delayed its plans for two wind turbines at Stannergate.

An application to the Scottish Government for biomassconsent was submitted in August, but the company has yet to follow it up with a similar request for wind turbines.

The nature of the proposed sustainable energydevelopments means that Forth Energy, a joint venture between Forth Ports and Scottish and Southern Energy, has to gain permission from the government and not the local authority.

Forth Energy was unable to say when an application might be submitted for the turbines as it was concentrating its efforts on the biomass plantand others proposed for Rosyth, Grangemouth and Leith.

Managing director Calum Wilson said, "As part of our commitment to renewable energyproduction in Dundee, Forth Energy continue to consider the potential for wind generation within the port."
