AGNI Announces Construction Of First Biomass-to-energy Plant

Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008

AGNI Inc, a global leader in the field of renewable and alternative clean energy technology, has announced the start of construction of its first biomass-to-energy plant in Malaysia.

Construction of the 10-megawatt plant, located in Bera, Pahang, is expected to be completed in the next 18 months.

AGNI is working towards completion by end-2009, targeting to export power into the national electrical grid from its Bera plant by 2010.

The first of its kind in Malaysia, the plant is able to enjoy significantly higher efficiency in excess of 30 percent compared to conventional plant efficiency of 15 to 18 percent, thereby requiring 120,000 tonnes of biomass annually to produce 10 megawatts.

The biomass will be supplied by the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) under a concession agreement signed in September 2008, the company said in a statement.
